VIETNAMESE BIOPHYSICAL SOCIETY (VBS)
The Vietnamese Biophysical Society (VBS) is a subdivision of the Vietnam Physical Society, serving as the national representative body for the advancement of education, research, and development in biophysics. The Society was founded to connect scientists, lecturers, and students, while promoting academic exchange, enhancing the quality of training and research, and fostering the application of biophysical achievements in life sciences, medicine, agriculture, and technology.
VBS is the official representative of Vietnam in the International Union for Pure and Applied Biophysics (IUPAB) and maintains close collaborative relationships with regional and international biophysics societies. Through conferences, workshops, training programs, and joint research initiatives, VBS plays a vital role in integrating the Vietnamese biophysics community into the global scientific arena, while contributing to the sustainable development of science and technology in the country.
The idea of establishing VBS originated from a group of lecturers and scientists from Phenikaa University, Nong Lam University, Vietnam Military Medical Academy, Hue University, Vietnam National University, Hanoi Medical University, HCM City University of Technology, University of Medicine and Pharmacy at HCM City, together with academic support from Kanazawa University (Japan). Driven by the urgent need to create a professional community for research collaboration and educational advancement, the founding group engaged in extensive discussions and preparations.
After a period of groundwork and advocacy, VBS was officially established in 2025 with broad consensus from research institutions and biophysics experts both within and outside Vietnam.
From its inception, VBS has set forth key strategic goals:
- To encourage fundamental and applied research in biophysics.
- To establish a forum for academic exchange, research collaboration, and the training of high-quality human resources.
- To promote scientific publications, including the future establishment of a specialized journal to disseminate research results.
- To support the development of policies and strategies for scientific and technological advancement in medicine, agriculture, environment, and biotechnology.
Among its prominent activities, VBS organizes national and international scientific conferences and workshops, as well as specialized training courses for lecturers and young researchers. The Society also actively participates in interdisciplinary projects and international collaborations, thereby enhancing Vietnam’s scientific standing on the global stage.
With its mission to promote biophysical research, education, and applications, VBS is steadily affirming its pioneering role in connecting the scientific community, fostering international integration, and contributing to the sustainable development of science and technology in Vietnam.
